REMINISCING IS A DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD. Reminisce wisely.

REMINISCING IS A TEMPTING DOUBLE-EDGED SWORD.

As a kid, old people would annoy me with their reminiscing and nonstop comparisons. They would  go on and  on about  things “back in their day”. In their telling, the generation of “these days” were always neglectful in some way.

YOU WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE BAD PART IS?

I often find myself doing the very same thing these days: usually referencing smart phones or the internet.

My reminiscing isn’t limited to technology.  I also reminisce about 90’s hip hop, hair styles, dances,  fashion, tv shows, various trends (think mini-truck clubs from the early 90’s). Its not limited to culture either, I’ve share countless laughs with family and friends talking about old times. Things we did, saw, or remember. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t sometimes  reminisce about my youthful appearance and physique;-)

IT SEEMS THE OLDER YOU GET, THE MORE YOU DO IT.

This is where things start to get dangerous

TOO MUCH EMPHASIS ON “WHAT USED TO BE” WILL ROB YOU OF “WHAT IS”, AND WORSE “WHAT COULD BE”.

If you choose to indulge in reminiscing – and I think you should from time to time. I encourage you to reflect on your successes.

Reflect on the times  you had to reach down deep, to dig-up all of the strength, courage, and determination you could muster to power through an obstacle.

Reflect on the times you weren’t sure whether you would make it, but you did.

Reflect on the times that people thought you were incapable, but you proved yourself to be more than capable.

THIS IS THE FAVORABLE SIDE OF THE SWORD.

These memories will awaken the confidence within you, and propel you forward. These memories will help you power through the obstacles of today.

Reminisce wisely.
