Keyshala Petitt Confidence after being recognized as volunteer of the year

Try this to boost your confidence

This #throwbackThursday pic is one of my go-tos when I want to remind myself of my tenacity. It’s from the year I was the Fundraising Chair for our elementary school PTA.

I launched two new and highly successful fundraisers. In addition to committee oversight, this meant developing a means to receive, record, and process payments and deposits. It meant deploying a convenient and efficient system to store, sort, and distribute frozen cookie dough, chocolates, re-ups for chocolates, gifts, prizes, damaged goods, returns, etc.

I remember coming to the school during my lunch breaks from work—dress clothes and all—to take payments and new requests for chocolate. I would load the cart, then push it throughout the school and distribute new chocolate orders to each classroom—portable building and all. (Yes, these lunch breaks were a little longer than usual which meant staying longer at work.)

During this time, I had taken on some serious portfolio assignments at work and they were also going very well. I worked hard at my day job and in my volunteer role at the school.  I was too busy filling my cart and quickly distributing chocolate across the school to notice if anyone was watching me, so I was touched when I found out I’d been selected as my school’s Volunteer in Public Schools (VIPS) Volunteer of the Year!

Let me tell you, I didn’t need any public recognition to make me feel good about the work I’d put in—yet I can’t tell you how wonderful it felt to have it!

I learned a few things during this time:

  1. I KNOW how to MAKE IT HAPPEN!!
  2. It’s true that you don’t ever know who is watching.
  3. Always let people know when you see them working hard.

Do you have any past accomplishments that you go to when you need to remind yourself of how awesome you are? I recommend you write them out and refer to them when you need to increase your faith and reduce your fear!
